Google download a document. Google docs can view word documents (not perfectly if the document is complex) but if you want to edit that docx or doc file in docs it will need to be converted into google doc's file format hence the second file appearing i admit that is confusing initially but once you understand that concept, things make more sense download google.

To change the default download location, click change and select where you'd like your files to be saved if you'd rather choose a specific location for each download, check the box next to "ask where to save each file before downloading" default download locations if you didn't change your default download location, then google chrome.
